Coin Flip Theory and Trading

What is a coin flip theory? When You flip a coin You know that there is only two possibilities - heads or tails. You have 50% chance that You will get it right. When You flip the coin 100 times You should get the same ratio or very close to that. You still know that you have 50% chance of being right. What You don't know is the sequence of the results. It won't be necessarily one time heads and one time tails. This is the important part of this theory that can be paralleled to trading. It is e…

More than anything, we’re crowd followers

I was reading an interesting article on what researchers are learning from big data on how shoppers behave. Buying and selling in financial markets isn’t much different from the grocery store in many ways so there are plenty of lessons to take away. This one, in particular, was striking. Many generic drugs are identical to name-brand medicine so it’s a great place to study why consumers prefer one over the other. The main theory was that people didn’t understand that Aspirin is just acetylsalic…

I will not go into the technical issue of the research drug vs generic drug, I focus on the herding behavior of human beings, the example that we bring is equal to panic in trading.

+1 Liked: Very interesting topic! IMHO crowd-following in Forex trading is a one-way ticket to margin call ;-) Happy trading :-)

I know I'm introvert! ... in some life situation! :)

:) I think most people fall somewhere in between extraverts and introverts. These two personality types are extremes. But generally, I think it’s true. Socializing with people (especially with the right people) does make you happier, more energized and emotionally more satisfied. If you don’t mind sharing, in what life situations are you an introvert?

Интраверты это люди очень деятельные ,поэтому их нужно оберегать,экстраверты люди шумные,их деятельность часто нуждается в корректировке,на мой взгляд для трейдера важнее качества интраверта

That’s a good question. Who makes a better trader, introvert or extravert? I know portfolio managers are usually introverts and, as you said, probably the same applies to traders.
