For this task we had a short list of women and had to choose three that we thought were the most important.
Interestingly Giselle Bunchen was on the list. I wouldn't have thought that. I would have preffered Angelina Jolie or Ian Somerhalder but then I read her bio and realized why she was in the list.
Anyway, they are all important or famous but I chose three that I like the best. Park Geun-hye is interesting but I heard that she hasn't done much from some Korean people and so dropped her from my list.
My top three in no particular order:
1. Elizabeth Blackburn. She actually won a nobel prize in 2009 for how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase. She has done a lot for medicine and in particular biochemistry. This is really important for genetics and to further science in combatting cancer. I would love to find a way to really prevent or stop cancer. She helped so much in understanding how our cells work and aging. 2. Mireille Ballestrazzi.. She was elected President of the French Interpol in 2012 and works hard to fight organized crime. This is a tough lady. I admire her a lot. She was a top police officer and how many female police officers do you know? A woman has to be tough to do this job.
From officer to chief to president. You go girl! She's really qualified for this job and has had a lot of experience dealing with drug dealers and organized crime. This is a woman who has and continues to put her life on the line to protect people. Her life is still on the line cause big time criminals probably know who she is and where she lives. Especially the ones around Lyon and that part of France and south eastern Europe. There actually isn't much personal infor to be found about her online and for good reason. One reason that I am wary of politicians is that they tend to talk a lot and deliver very little. This is a woman that does and doesn't need to say much. Don't mess with her.
3. Sonia Gandhi. She was born in Italy but married an Indian man and moved to India. She didn't want her husband to get into politics but he did and she was NOT happy about it. This decition put him and her and her kids in danger and in fact he was killed. After some persuation she herself went into politics. Yeah, I don't like politicians but you gotta admire her. Indian politics can be a very dangerous place to be. Her mother in law was there first and was also killed. She did refuse to be Prime Minister but settled for President of Congress. She fights for the welfare of Indian people. Since I don't live there I don't know if she's doing a good job or making an impact. I heard that she worked to pass a bill on food security and was trying to help feed the hungry.
She recently has also been working on empowering women and trying to provide services for women.
"Let us take a pledge today that we will, together, work hand-in-hand, to put an end to the atrocities and violence against women. Let us all work together to ensure empowerment, development and respect to all our sisters" Sonia Gandhi during a speech to female workers.
If you haven't noticed. I have chosen women who I feel have made a humanitarian impact on this world. I think these women are women who genuinely care about the living and want to make this world better and aren't interested in power. People have told me that people want power. I really really don't and can't understand why anyone would. Wantng money, I understand. People are greedy and money buys things, but what does power buy? I don't think anything good.
