I suddenly fell ill on 29 November with pancreatitis. Gallstones have descended down the bile duct to block the pancreas outflow. Four operations later, eleven days on a ventilator, fevers, deep vein thrombosis, it seems to have stabilized, but I have lost 40 pounds and have been very weak. I have undergone Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy with good progress. When I first was sat up out of bed to do Physical Therapy, I lost consciousness because of low blood pressure.

This summer, I rebuilt my bathroom with an eye toward me getting older, and I am glad I did. I took out the tub and made a large shower pan with a bench to sit. I can not imagine trying to shower in a regular tub.

I feel like an old man hobbling around my house with a walker and taking the fist-full of pills all of the doctors want me to take, but I do get stronger by the day. A note about the exercises I am taught, if everyone did these (they should teach these in school, instead of jumping jacks or push-ups) there would be a lot less back problems, I believe. I taught Martial arts for several years, but these exercises strengthen your hip girdle which stabilize your gait (the way you walk) and improves posture. I really appreciate these sorts of things only now that I am sick and getting better.
