Endnote and comments: February 2011

Even though February is the shortest month of the year, the contest grew by 15% in terms of registrations and reached a number of 743 participants.

Probably, the main motivating news of the month for the participants is the bonus now available for the 1st place winners. From now on, the winner of the contest gets invited as a guest to the prestigious monthly Geneva Forex Event! Flight and accommodation charges are covered by Dukascopy.

After 3 contest months we observe a positive tendency in terms of traders' understanding of the importance of the community side of the competition. The rearrangements of standings that happened after the Dukascopy evaluation announcements in December and January clearly indicated that not only is it important to have a positive performance and pips, but also the way how the trader arrived to that result (statistics) and how was he was communicating his activities.

General observations and conclusions in February:

  • We see an emergence of "community leaders". Valuable analysis, discussions and hints provided to less experienced traders ensure them high popularity scores and attract attention to their trading activities.
  • The newly added performance histogram appeared to be a good tool facilitating the identification of trader's trading pattern. I.e., whether he is gaining his performance mostly on scalping, "long" trades etc.
  • An increasing number of violations with numerous registrations was detected. Although we try to remain comparatively liberal in that respect and do not ban all identified users (although we reserve the right to do that), we warn that if such a violation is detected for one of the top-10 users, disqualification will be applied.
  • Seeing the increasing number of "circle commenting" and "circle voting", we do consider the possibility to apply temporary bans or other restrictive measures for that behaviour.

A brief overview of functionalities added in February:

  • Free format comments
  • Sharing of individual posts
  • Performance histogram added to trader statistics
  • Possibility to enclose platform screenshots (graphs) to the trader blog records
  • Performance improvement (now the contest page gets loaded faster)
  • Internal minor bug fixes

We remind you that your questions, suggestions and general feedback are appreciated. The Forum and the contest email address (contest@dukascopy.com) are at your disposal.Besides, do not forget to follow the contest news on Twitter and on the News page.

Good luck in March!
